Figure Drawing Class

Description: Enjoy the beauty of the human form in the classic art of figure drawing. Artists will work from a live model in a variety of croquis, and poses ranging from 5-40 minutes. Basic anatomy and drawing techniques will be addressed. Artists can feel free to explore different techniques and mediums, such as charcoal, graphite, conte and ink. Model fee included. You bring your drawing supplies and easels.

Description: Join us each Wednesday for Make Stuff with Marty & Friends – a modern interpretation of the quilting circles of yore led by Marty von Rosenstiel. Each week, experience two hours of freefrom community creativity working with various salvaged materials, recyclable items, paper, fabric, and other assorted odds and ends. Feel free to work on your own projects or let Marty lead the way with her limitless wealth of ideas – all materials provided. All ages are welcome, however, those under 10 must be accompanied by a parent.

Description: Spend the afternoon exploring the properties of Yupo synthetic paper. Learn how to really make your paint flow while controlling the process throughout. Explore a technique for adding texture to this paper and creating more interest to your paintings. Learn how to layer paint on Yupo synthetic paper without disturbing your painted surface. Create tasteful touches with luminous paints and explore making pigment move just by adding another color. During drying times, viewing DVDs of recent AWS shows and analyze techniques used. Please bring your regular, professional caliber watercolor supplies and at least four support boards. Suggested support boards include gatorboard and varnished luan plywood. They can not be warped or flimsy. Please bring a clean palette. Special luminous paints, Yupo paper, texturing material and watercolor pencils will be provided for your use.

Description: This four-week session for kids and young adults will offer insight and and introduction to the exciting world of fashion design. The course will cover concept development, sketching, designing, fabrics, and a fun, hands-on project where students will create their own skirt to wear or share. Color, fabric, trends, and finding and expression your own sense of fashion will be covered, as well as hand sewing, basic patternmaking, constructing and finishing, and an overview of the home sewing machine.



Spring Into Acting: a Drama Class for Kids

Description: This fun and high-energy four week class will include theatre games, and an introduction to improvisation and ensemble techniques. Students will hone theatre skills: vocal production and movement for the actor, monologue and scene preparation. This mini-course will culminate in a final presentation on March 31st for an invited audience of family and friends.



Printmaking Workshop

Description: Relax and enjoy artistic camaraderie and snacks while you create an original linoleum block carved with linocutters (razors). Students will look through a variety of original prints as well as prints from the masters to discover new techniques. They will then sketch and carve their own block and then hand-burnish them onto paper. Feel free to bring any special papers and/or fabric from home if you’re feeling ambitious. Otherwise, we will provide paper, lino-cutters, ink, breyers, and linoleum blocks. No experience is necessary! Simply come with a steady hand and a willingness to learn amidst a group of encouraging people! All materials are included.

Description: Students will learn basic through advanced jewelry-making techniques involving wire-wrapping, crimping, and stringing beads and focal stones. All supplies are included. Students will work with sterling silver, gemstones, copper wire, and glass beads as they create a lovely, unique set of jewelry to take home. Not feeling artistic or a little nervous about your skill level? Not to worry as Liz will personally guide you through all of the needed concepts as you create your personally-designed jewelry.

Description: Save money and stop giving away or throwing away your clothes. Diane McNitt, The Sewing Doctor, gives new life to old clothes in this workshop where you’ll learn how it can be fashionable to be frugal. Chances are you have clothes you would love to wear but they’re either too long, too short, too big, too small, boring, out of style or torn. Let The Sewing Doctor teach you how to:
  • give them new life
  • update the old so you can wear it again
  • alter your clothes for a more flattering fit
  • add vintage scarves, laces and buttons for a unique look.
  • repair stretched out elastic, ripped seams, pockets and hems

Sewing machine not necessary. All that’s required is the desire to fix what ails your sick clothes. Please bring ill-fitting garments and items to be repaired and renewed.

Description: Learn the versatile art of beadweaving while making the fun Peyote Squared Bracelet that builds quickly with large glass seed beads. This off-loom technique, also called the gourd stitch, is traditionally used in Native American jewelry. Open to adults and children over 12. No previous experience necessary.

Instructor Doreen Kassel takes students down the rabbit hole for two full days of 3D illustrations with polymer clay! With years of experience as a professional children’s book illustrator, and adept polymer clay sculptor, Kassel promises a medley of informative technique, story-telling, and illustrative journaling through polymer clay and paint. Using polymer clay, students will sculpt in relief over a ceramic tile & paint in a vintage style, with oil paints in multiple steps. Use color, texture, and design to create a beautiful, personal piece of art.

Description: Students will begin with creative character drawing using tortillions, kneaded erasers, drawing pencils and pointillism pens. Students will then move into a study of pointillism (painting with dots) as they create large paper African masks using marshmallows and paint for pointillism markings. Students are required to wear clothes that can get messy as we will be using acrylic paint, glitter, and other materials — come prepared to get messy and have fun together! **Students are encouraged to bring a personal sketchbook to class. If not, drawing paper will be provided as a substitute

Color is constantly used as a tool in everything from marketing and product development to interior design, education, and law enforcement. So surely artists can learn and understand some of these devices. In this one day workshop, Deena Ball willl help you learn the properties of color, as well as the uses and meanings of certain colors. Students experiment with the effects of color using collage, watercolor, and acrylic paint. Make your color choices work for you to convey mood and elicit an intentional response from your viewers.
